OSI Packaging (dba Old South Industries) is a 15-person packaging supply distributor serving customers across the American South with shrink wrap, packing tape, packaging equipment, and field service. They are a relationship-driven business where consistent service and deep product knowledge fueled significant growth, including a major surge during COVID that put their old systems to the test.

That growth was impressive, but it exposed a hard truth: the system they had run on for 20 years, a DOS-based platform that was the company’s very first computer system, could not keep pace. OSI Packaging needed a modern ERP built for distribution, and they needed a partner who could help a small, tightly staffed team make the jump without losing what they had built.

The Challenge

OSI Packaging had been running on the same DOS-based system since the company first moved to computers. For years, the team made it work. They built habits around it, kept physical inventory books, and compensated for the gaps with manual effort. But when growth accelerated, those workarounds became unmanageable.

Key challenges included:

  • The DOS platform was so outdated that accounting software could not interface with it, forcing accounting to maintain a parallel shell in QuickBooks and manually print, scan, and email documents that the system could not send digitally
  • The system could not accurately reflect true costs, leaving their CPA and leadership flying blind each month with financial reports that simply did not add up
  • With roughly half of OSI Packaging’s business in drop shipments, team members had to type out the full item description from scratch on every single order, every single time
  • Consignment location management was done by hand, creating a slow, error-prone process that consumed hours of staff time each week
  • Staff had to be on-site to work, leaving operations fully exposed to weather disruptions and after-hours emergencies with no flexibility

Conveyance Solutions worked closely with the OSI Packaging team to implement Epicor Prophet 21 in a way that respected their existing processes while building the structure they needed to grow.   2. PORG Training and Adoption
    Trained the OSI Packaging team on P21’s Purchase Order Requirements Generation (PORG) functionality, giving buyers an accurate, filtered requirements list so they could meet customer demand without over-purchasing.
  3. Post-Go-Live Hypercare Support
    A dedicated Microsoft Teams channel, staffed with Conveyance Solutions’ P21 experts, gave OSI Packaging a direct line to real answers in real time as new questions arose during live operations.
  4. Consignment Tracking Configuration
    Configured P21 to give the team full visibility into what was at each consignment location at any given time, replacing the physical tracking process entirely.
  5. Rapid Customization on the Fly
    When drivers began returning the wrong paperwork after delivery, Conveyance Solutions quickly customized document formatting in P21 with color-coded indicators (green to go, red to stay) the team could immediately sort what came back from what should not.
